Message from the Founder

As a child in Tokyo, I was fascinated by the stories held in objects like an ancient bowl and my grandmother’s kimono. Moving to the U.S. for studies, I realized the depth of my cultural heritage, seeing it not just in relics and art but as a living, breathing part of who I am. My study and career led me through cities that shimmered like mirages - Singapore, New York, London, and Dubai while exploring over 30 different countries. This global journey deepened my understanding and appreciation of our shared human heritage. Inspired by visionaries like Kengo Kuma who beautifully demonstrated the reconnection between nature and people, I found my calling. In creating Karoku, my dream was to be a bridge between the old with the new, Japan with the world, ensuring our past has a place in the future. It is the richness and love for culture, that I pour into every aspect of Karoku.

The Name "Karoku"

The story all started with the founder's grandmother opening a restaurant in 1964 in Tokyo, a tribute to her cherished husband Karoku Suzuki. This culinary landmark, still gracing the streets of Tokyo today, has been a favorite haunt for both locals and visitors over the past six decades. The secret to its enduring appeal lies not just in the flavors passed down through three generations but also in the warm, inviting ambiance it offers. Once you've savored the essence of Karoku, it stays with you forever. As the current custodians of this legacy, we continue this journey in our own unique way, adding to the rich tapestry of our family's story.
